holiday star cookies

An absolute classic, this recipe is a holiday family favorite. They taste amazing, yes, but the real satisfaction is when the cookie perfectly presses down and cracks just enough when the chocolate star is placed in the center. If you know, you know.

Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F. Beat peanut butter and butter until whipped and fluffy. Add sugars and beat well. Add egg, milk, vanilla and beat until fluffy once more.

In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients, and slowly add to whipped mixture and mix on low until blended. Refrigerate for 4 hours, or overnight.**

Roll dough into 1/2" balls and roll in granulated sugar to coat. Place on cookie sheet and do not press down. Bake 8-12 minutes until set. Let cool 2 minutes and immediately press Brachs star into center of each gently pressing down. Transfer cookies to double grid cooling rack***

*always soft for flour, for all recipes for best results

**When using butter vs shortening, cookies can become flat while baking. To avoid this, chill dough so that the butter in the mix hardens

*** single row wired cooling racks allow soft set cookies to fall through the wire when cooling. Using a double grid sheet provides an ideal cooling for cookies. If you don't have a double grid, lay a single wire row cooling sheet across another to create a double grid (squares)
