chocolate syrup

You would have been hard-pressed to look into my grandmother’s refrigerator, at any given moment on any random day, and not find a jar of her homemade chocolate syrup.

Ingredients

1 C Cocoa Powder
1/2 C Light Corn Syrup
1 1/2 C Sugar
1 C Hot Water

Directions

In a bowl, mix sugar and cocoa with whisk until fully combined.

Add corn syrup, and a small amount of water and mix with spoon to form a smooth paste while gradually adding remainder of hot water. Set on stove and bring to a boil over medium low heat.

Boil for three minutes while stirring constantly.

Remove from heat and cool completely.

Transfer to glass mason jar and store in refrigerator up to two weeks.

Serving Suggestions

Perfect for a glass of milk or bowl of ice cream. My favorite: add to a cup of steamed milk for an incredible hot chocolate treat. And if you're making homemade Irish Cream, this is the perfect chocolate syrup.
